German-based drug delivery manufacturer Gerresheimer AG is expanding its Fayette County, Georgia, presence with a multi-million dollar addition to its existing medical device facility.
The 60,000 square-foot expansion will include an ISO Class 8 clean room, nearly doubling the existing capacity at the Peachtree City facility, in an effort to keep up with increasing North American demand for insulin pens and inhalers.
“We’re experiencing worldwide growth in demand for user friendly, safe and easy to use medical devices such as inhalers and insulin pens. As a result of this growth, and new customer projects, our excellent plant in Peachtree City will be significantly increasing its production capacity,” said Andreas Schütte, the plastics and devices division manager of Gerresheimer’s board, in a news release. “There are a great many opportunities for us in this business segment in the U.S. and our Peachtree City facility will play a crucial role in helping us to exploit them.”
The expansion is expected to begin later this year and be up and running in early 2015. It will eventually employ an additional 120 people, according to the company, doubling the number of employees there.
Part of the draw to the suburb on the south side of Atlanta is Georgia’s workforce training program, Quick Start, the company and state and local officials said. The new jobs will include production as well as executive, administrative and supervisory positions.
Gerresheimer opened the Peachtree City facility in 1993 and first expanded in 2009, adding a 13,000 square-foot Technical Competence Center with in-house mold service, injection molding machines for trials and analysis laboratories, mirroring the company’s TCC in Wackersdorf, Germany. | |
