Nuconic Packaging LLC became the new identity for Winkler Plastic LLC on March 1.
With thermoforming and extrusion capabilities, the firm manufactures PET containers primarily for bakery and snack applications with other end markets including produce, confectionery and pet food.
"We want to supply our customers with easy-to-use containers," said Alan Franz, CEO since February 2013.
The processor added a third thermoforming machine in October. Thermoforming Systems LLC supplied the equipment, which Franz said decreases the appearance of plug holes in containers, improves consistency, clarity and strength and allows customers using automation to more easily de-nest containers.
Also during 2013, the firm invested in tooling equipment, a linear rail trim press and design capability.
Franz said the firm received an A-rating on a food safety audit that was conducted under the auspices of BRC Trading Ltd. The BRC-brand packaging and packaging materials standard is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative benchmarking committee.
Vernon, Calif.-based Nuconic employs less than 50, occupies 30,000 square feet and leases other space in off-site warehouses.
The revamped identity amalgamates portions of three words: new (nu-), containers (-con-) and plastic (-ic).
During 2013, Francisco Diaz joined the business as director of operations and engineering, and Lupe Meneses came aboard as customer service manager.
Family-owned private investment firm Carlin Capital Partners of Encino, Calif., continues as majority owner of the business. Carlin made an equity infusion in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Christopher and Colin Winkler established Winkler Plastic in 2008, but neither is involved with the business now. |
